MISSION STATEMENT

NewMexicoCARE has come together to request a moratorium on further development of industrial wind facilities in New Mexico until adequate regulations have been adopted by the State Legislature:

- protect rural populations through adequate setbacks.
- preserve scenic and historical landscapes.
- protect wildlife from negative impact.
- establish a code of ethics for procedural transparency and oversight.

More specifically we are against the Invenergy LLC proposal for a development of 47 turbines near the North and West ridges of Red Mesa between Ribera and Bernal. This industrial wind farm is too close to the dwellings on and below the mesa and to the communities bordering the Pecos River.

Our goals are to:

- Inform the people of El Valle about the Invenergy development, about previous research that has been conducted on industrial wind facilities, and about the negative consequences when locating them too close to homes.

- Collect signatures for a petition to request a moratorium on further industrial wind projects in New Mexico until adequate regulations are in place.

- Propose a more comprehensive ordinance on industrial wind facilities to protect the people of San Miguel county.

- Propose a state bill to adequately regulate industrial wind facilities.

- Create some state wide informative gatherings on the subject of industrial wind facilities.

- Contact the press and public officials.

- Connect to other groups who face similar problems with the proximity of wind turbines.
